About Ryan

Ryan Raven is an NC-based trumpet player, composer, arranger, and educator.  He is in demand as a freelancer and has performed with the Fayetteville Symphony, the Carolina Philharmonic, Queen City Band, and for numerous private events. 

An experienced teacher, Ryan has worked with marching bands in Wake, Scotland and Cumberland counties. He has also built trumpet studios in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and the Triangle where he taught brass fundamentals, improvisation, and audition prep.  His students have placed in honors bands, marched DCI, and attended college as music majors. 

Ryan earned his Bachelor of Music from UNC-Chapel Hill where he studied with Jim Ketch.  He earned his Master’s degree in Jazz studies from The University of Northern Colorado where he studied with Dr. John Adler.  Other influential teachers include Kris Johnson, Marissa Benedict, Chad Winkler and Larry Wells.
